I know I'm replying super late to your post, but I just did this about a year ago. I was sexually abuse by a family member from 4-6 and I had to see him all the time and I hated it. I had major Depression for the last 3 years. let me tell you telling my parents about it was one of the hardest things I ever had to do! and I live far away from my parents so I had to do it over the phone.
In all honesty my mom didn't take the news very well, she try to deny any of it being her fault for leaving me in the hand of a pedofile and sexual abuse. And that I always acted normal so how was she suppose to know anything was wrong. It was really hard to deal with her after imagining this moment of finally tell her for the last 17 years of my life, and this is how she reacted! well our talk ended on a bad note. so my counselor told me to write her a letter explaining my feelings and what I expected, so I did. after she recieved the letter we had a long talk, which was a lot better that the first time. she and my dad started talking to a counselor and devised a plan to talk with my grandparents so that i would never have to see my uncle again.
this took all the stress off of me and now I don't have any secrets and they have to deal with everything. I no longer have Depression and I'm so much happy.
there's no best way to tell your family, you just have to come out in say it and don't expect it to make things better right away, but it will hopefully allow you to feel free from the pain and allow your burdens to be lifted a little. and eveything will get better in time. this will be the best thing you can do for yourself!!! you won't be responsible anymore, they will, and you deserve a break. so just do it!
