Even unrefined Sugar and honey suppresses the immune system. The reason Sugar suppresses immunity is because both glucose, formed from the breakdown of sucrose, and vitamin C require insulin for transport. When you ingest a lot of Sugar insulin gets tied up transporting the glucose. This prevents the proper transport of vitamin C to the white blood cells suppressing their activity.
