Hi there....nope I don't really know about the kind of mucous that licorice forms.

BUT, I do know that licorice is added to almost all chinese herbal formulas because they believe it 'harmonizes' all of the other herbs. Helps bring them all together and helps them to work. So that might be why it's in there!
