I had my Mirena placed in Nov. '05. I am using it strictly for the purpose of controlling heavy periods. My doctor thought it would be the best course of therapy since I don't tolerate bc pills or other methods well. I am now 42 and have tried just about everything over the years.
The Mirena has controlled my bleeding but has never done anything else it is supposed to do. I bled quite a bit that first year. Now, my periods come every 3 weeks. The week before I have a lot of gi symptoms which could be attributed to my severe endometriosis. However, the couple of days before my periods I feel exhausted and could sleep around the clock.
In June, I had an anxiety-like "spell". It woke me from a sound sleep. My heart was racing and I thought I was dying. I was faint and cold and hot and felt strange all over. I rushed to the ER and they checked to make sure it was not my heart and sent me home. They felt it must have been anxiety. I had about 5 more of the "spells" over the next couple of months. I dealt with them and just went about my daily routines.
10 days ago, I wasn't feeling well and was laying down. I woke from a sound sleep (again) and my pulse was 106. I felt the same as in June and was just as scared. I called the doctor on call and he told me to go to the ER if my pulse went over 120 or I actually fainted. I have had at least one "spell" a day since then. My dr. is now running a battery of tests. They took 7 vials of blood from me tonight. They are checking for everything from heart issues to thyroid issues. They are even doing some sort of bacterial blood culture. He is sending me to see a cardiologist in the next couple of weeks for an echocardiogram and an ultrasound of my heart. They are going to set me up with a heart halter monitor to wear for 24 hours, too. Now, I have "REAL" anxiety because of the worry. My dr. doesn't think it could be my Mirena because I have had it for 4 yrs. and these are new problems. MY OB?GYN swears by the thing and dismisses its problems. He also dismissed the terrible problems I had with Lupron until he realized it just wasn't working at all anymore. I started to lose hair on Lupron and it has continued with the Mirena.
Anyone else have similar symptoms? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
