The recipe's link made me hungry, seeing the pictures of food. *salivating*

I must concur about physicians, only go to them for conditions that cannot be cured otherwise. I'd definitely do if I, I don't know, was shot by a gun or some other severe injury or condition. Observing a majority of intensive care orders, most are for pain, antibiotic, antacid, or other patented medication. People laying in an intensive care bed is actually stressful, so doctors prescribe prilosec, nexium, or other antacid to prevent ulcers. You may remeber a time when surgeons advised the only way to fix a stomach ulcer is with surgery. When it was discovered that a simple antacid, patented or not, could cure stomach ulcers by allowing the low acid stomach to heal, surgeons fought hard to keep the surgeries coming as they were making fortunes cutting people open. Anyway, back to my point. I noticed some familiar lab tests ordered commonly by physicians, blood serum lipase and amylase. My initial thought was: "I wonder if they are actually measuring lipase and amylase levels to check for deficiency!" Coincidentally, they look for elevations in those enzymes checking for pancreatitis most of the time. There have been a few tests for B vitamins on occasion, but I haven't discussed the whys with the physicians yet.

I'm having the most difficult time explaining to her to take charge, because she is torn between what I am saying and what the doctor says. To me, it's simple. But in her mind, she is overcomplicating it by not taking charge of her health. I don't like being labeled an "enabler," but that's what I feel like I am being by presenting this radical change in lifestyle. I suppose daily repetition is the best medicine and lots of encouragement with evidence to backup my claims. But in her state of mind, she feels overwhelmed by the plethora of information.

The most difficult thing to do is help someone find that torch inside and help them figure out how to light their own flame. Perhaps it cannot be taught, except through self-realization or by example.
