Did your doctor do a needle biopsy of your thyroid? As far as I am aware, that is how Hashimoto's is diagnosed. Hashimoto's can lead to hypothyroidism, and some of you symptoms sound like hypo. Often times the adrenals are exhausted and can produce similar symptoms of hypothyroid.
Hypothyroid medications won't work properly without your adrenals functioning.
I would request a saliva test/spit test from your naturopath or doctor to determine if your adrenals are functioning optimally. Then I would get your labs for your free T-3 and T-4.
Also, visit these two websites for lots of education and informed people who have been battling the same thing:
1. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com
look for the "long and pathetic list of symptoms" as well as the section called "those durn adrenals" for a lot of info that may lead you in the right direction.
2. http://www.realthyroidhelp.com
the people on this forum are amazing. many of them have hashimoto's, hypo, and adrenal problems and have battled it and bad diagnoses and misinformed doctors.
Whatever you do, A gluten free diet may be necessary.
Iodine supplementation works with your T-3 hormone, but if your T-4 isn't converting to T-3 you will need to take selenium as you may be deficient, as well as zinc, in order for the Iodine to be effective. Fish oil is good for memory (I empathize with you about the memory probs and inabilty to remember the simplest words) and B-12 is essential to take every day too.
Good luck. It's not a fun battle, but dessicated thyroid meds can make a huge difference in the daily battle and crisis your body is facing.
