have you tried one of those electrolyte powders? the kind you get from the pharmacy (with zero/no added sugar) like the ones you take with you when you travel?
(they are called 'hydrolyte' or 'gastrolyte' here - for whatever that's worth)

i think ginab4u might be right about the electrolytes, since bowel issues don't seem to be present...
