I'm certainly not an expert, but yes I'm pretty sure they can, LoricalLady. See this  post by Humaworm: http://curezone.com/forums/fm.asp?i=868289#i  See also the photo in the post he's answering. Mine look just like this (in shape)...

I've read that they can be different colors, depending on age, where they've been living, etc.  Although they look bright orange in the photo, they were more of a pink-orange color. (photo was taken at night, so color a little off)

Other reasons why I think they are flukes:

• I haven't eaten anything that pink-orange color in a long time (and my transit time is very fast now since I'm on IF#1 and 2 -- 6-12 hrs)
• They have a very tough, rubbery texture if you poke at them. (with a loooong poker!  ) They don't break apart easily (or at all) like most digested food particles do.
  
• Uniformity of shape. Most of mine, whether large or small, have had the same shape: not quite oval, not quite diamond-shaped. Rounded but flatten out toward the edges. The best way i can describe the shape is to say that it's similar to an ataulfo mango (the ones from Mexico). Here's what an ataulfo mango looks like:
