I've been drinking two full glasses of Kefir milk a day for almost a month. I've also been taking Chlorella which has a lot of B-12.
This is actually a B12 analogue, cyanocobalamin, which is believed to be converted in to active methylcobalamin in the body given the proper nutrients.
My throat started to get bigger after starting supplementation with Black Walnut Hull powder for Hypothyroidism. I've read that B-12 is not good for goiters.
A deficiency or an excess can lead to goiters.
The funny thing is I never had a problem until started the BWH powder. My question is do you think it would be ok to continue with the Kefir milk/Chlorella? They weren't giving me any problems that I noticed. I'm taking the two for good flora repopulation and for vitamins.
Yes, I see no problem with continuing these.
I don't want to stop the BWH powder either and would rather see what happens in the next week or so. My basal temps were low. I just don't need a full blown Goiter attack. What do you think, could Iodine supplementation actually cause a goiter?
There are various forms of goiter. Most often they occur as the need for thyroid hormone increases are needed. So the thyroid gland enlarges to allow a higher thyroid hormone production. Unless you are showing signs of hyperthyroidism, which it does not sound like, I would say it is most likely that your thyroid is enlarging to allow the use of the iodine you are now getting. Black walnut hull actually has a long history of being used to treat goiters. So I would stay with it and see if the goiter recedes as your thyroid hormones go back up to sufficient levels.
