Hello
I have been looking for a forum to air my experience with this therapy called NCR, or neurocranial restructuring, if nothing else in hopes of saving someone else from making the same mistake.
Now before I go on, I will say maybe this treatment helps those who have major pain or trauma, but I sought out the treatment as a means of addressing simple anxiety, tension, and depression... and all I can say is DO NOT try this.
The experience was horrifying, upon the first inflation of the balloon I heard massive crunching and tearing of connective tissue within my skull, so there was major movement going on. At the end of the four day series, I have noted these changes, none of which are enjoyable and was not warned about. All I was told is the treatment can't hurt, it can only help! BS!
1. A pulling backwards of the bridge of my nose, which I assume was caused by pushing backwards of the sphenoid, accompanied by a pushing forward of my brow ridge. The effect of this is that there is now a crease at the bridge of my nose in between my eyes, and my brow ridge is pushed forward and more pronounced making me look like I am frowning or angry all the time when I am not.
2. Changes in the contour and shape of my neck giving my formerly good looking profile a weak look, like my neck has gotten softer and less muscular or strong looking.
3. My whole cranium seems to have shrunken some. Looking at recent pre-NCR pictures, my head was much bigger on my neck, and also my nose has been pulled upwards so now when looking at me head on one can see slightly up my nostrils which was never the case before.
I guess in short I am really pissed off because how an I to reverse these changes?? I feel like I am permanently changed, for the worse not for the better as all the NCR doctors try to tell me, and there is nothing I can do about it now. I have become extremely depressed as my level of human interaction is almost none now, where I used to be successful and social. Any of the NCR doctors I have talked to, including trying to contact the creator of this quack procedure, just make light of the situation and tell me it sounds to them like I had a good result. This is not an improvement!!
The main issues I have with this treatment are as follows. I so wish I would have listened to my instincts and not gone through with this because at the time I decided to try this thinking it would help me, I still had these unanswered questions.
A. Why does doctor Howell's website promote this treatment as a cure all? It screams SCAM to me as it lists every symptom under the sun as pointing to a 'locked up' cranium. Of course people are going to read this list and see themselves as candidates.
B. With all the talk on every NCR doctor's website about how this treatment moves the sphenoid bone, why can none of them tell me exactly how the sphenoid bone is moved? Do they not know? All of the answers I have gotten to this question are very vague. I ask because maybe if I knew which way or in what direction the bone(s) were shifted I could go to a cranial osteopath to try to get things back to normal but noe of the NCR doctors can answer this for me.
C. If this treatment is so great and so many people have had such awesome results, how come all of the before and after pics you find online are of the same patients and look like they were taken in the 80's? RED FLAG.
D. I detest how NCR is described as a therapy that 'moves the bones back to their original intended position' or will help you 'get back to normal'. This is ironic since what NCR actually does to you is completely unnatural and moves your structure AWAY from it's original position. They act like everyone in the world can be improved upon by this procedure and that we are all out of place naturally, but need NCR to correct our form. RED FLAG
E. Why is Dean Howell's website FORUM not updated since 2008? Why are there no current posts and why do they refuse to post my questions detailing these concerns?
F. The only answer I get from NCR doctors is that I should quit complaining and be thankful and that 'it sounds like I had a good result' and also that 'it sounds like I am describing symptoms of needing more NCR.' Please.
Anyways, that is my story. Whatever you do, for your own future and well being, please be extremely critical and sure you are willing to risk changing yourself before you jump on the bandwagon of such an invasive treatment. I've learned my lesson but I am afraid I will never 'get back to normal'.
Thanks
