It's odd how trees can become pests, theres no mention of the species though, surely if they were that bad they would have taken them down before and replaced them with natives.
Your right though intoduced species can be a problem, there is a similar problem with rhodedendrons here in Wales, though attractive they are poisonous and no good to native wildlife
