Brian,

My view is based on the need at midlife to allow the body time to rest, recuperate and regenerate. The liver's capacity for regeneration is remarkable but it has to be given the chance to do that. A period without alcohol, good food, sufficient EFAs and B vitamins, (including choline and inositol), Liver Cleanses are all part of this process.

At the end of that period, then I think decision-making becomes far easier, regarding how a person wants to live their life. Personally, I dont think I will give up alcohol as I value it as a part of life and socialibility. But I also recognise that I might change if my pattern of drinking interferes with my aims or threatens my health again. But the point I am trying to make is that it is very difficult to make longterm decisions when one is directly confronted with health problems. It takes time to change and for the body to change. Things can look very different from when a degree of clarity and reflection has been attained.

Good luck on whatever you decide.
