It may mean a food allergy response, such as gluten sensitivity. I was experiencing thin stools (like the size of a pencil) when I ate a good dose of gluten (i.e. wheat bread) about the time I was diagnosed as gluten sensitive. When I got all gluten out of my diet, the thin stools returned to normal size.
