As I stated, you can look it up for the MAC.

The file can be used for Internet resources blocking... this could have prevented the problem from occuring in the first place.

Some browser add ons will edit it for you automagically, and security sites will tell you how to manually manipulate it for you particular OS.

If these things become a problem for you, I would learn how to use it or find an add on program you are comfortable with like Addblocker...
