A hernia in the groin area would be an inguinal hernia. It can cause pain in the scrotum, but I have never heard of testicular or penile pain from an inguinal hernia. Do you have any discharge? This could indicate an infection.

You really need to have the surgery. I would think that since this occurred prior to the insurance running out, and it was looked at by a doctor and surgery recommended prior to the insurance running out I would think that it needs to be covered. Check with the insurance company or maybe even the insurance commission to see if they must cover the condition since the surgery was recommended before the insurance ran out. You can also check in to State aid if all else fails.

As for pain relievers there is not much readily available that is going to be really strong. Indian pipe is one of the best natural pain killers out there, but it is rather hard to find. DL-Phenylalanine (DLPA) is a great pain killer as well, but the drawback is that it takes a couple of weeks to kick in. You r best bet is to get the surgery then you can get some pain killers afterward. Then use the silica and vitamin C to strengthen the tissues so they are less likely to tear in the future.
