Is Kefir safe for babies and toddlers?

My son is 2 years old and he's been on Antibiotics on and off since he was born. He was tested for proteus species and the test came back positive. He has urinary tract infection so I'm wondering if the bacteria found in kefir would be beneficial for his condition.

I believe disease enters through the mouth so by introducing good bacteria into the gut I might be encoraging the good bacteria taking over the bad bacteria found in the urinary tract.

If kefir was safe for him it'd be both good natural source to get benefial bacteria and a way to speed up healing with no drugs.

What do you think?
