Hello there,
I am a female who is looking to get a chin reconstruction. I
have a dimple/cleft in my chin that is attached to the bone. I have been to
a cosmetic surgeon who said that to "remove" the dimple it would be very
difficult. I have wanted to get it done for almost 12 years. I am seeking a
permanent solution, so Restylane injections would be out of the question. I
have heard of two different procedures that may be the answer: one involves
cutting the tissue that tethers the dimple to the bone, and placing a
barrier (like fat) between the tissue and the bone so it can heal and not
re-attach. The second surgery is Z-plasty, which I've heard leaves scars.
During the consultation, the physician mentioned this one was not a good
option. I am curious if anyone knows of any doctors who have done any surgeries
similar to these? What were the effects? Are there any before and after
images I can view? Are there any other procedures that may work better? I
was also suggested a chin implant; however, my chin is already decently
prominent so this is out of the question. Dr. Barry Zide from NY University mentioned in an e-mail that it would be easier if I got my chin shortened. I am trying to find as much information about the procedure and whether it can be done before I get another consultation. I can send pictures of my chin upon request.
