Hi Dr. Mom,

I enjoy your forum, thanks!

I am writing this for a friend who is having problems with her periods. Dysmenhorrea, as her doctor called it. She is 30 years old, 5' 4'', 115lbs., no children, no history of disease or obesity, she eats well and is learning proper food combinations, meditates, does deep breathing exercises, yoga (she's a yoga instructor), exercises, performs sitz baths, fasts, and takes no drugs other than occasional glass of wine. She does live in Quebec and gets very little sun.

She stopped drinking coffee and that helped a little and she says the sitz baths help too, but they are still quite severe. She says they have slowly getting worse over the last few years.

The following is her description of her symptoms:

A few days before : fatigue, need more sleep, pimples, moodiness, feel like eating sugar, sometimes sensitive breasts, sometimes a sudden rise of energy and peppyness.

A day before : light abdominal cramp plus all of the above.

Day 1 : all of the above plus dizziness, nausea, hot flashes alternating with feeling cold, confusion, forgetting stuff, sometimes unbelievable cramps, feeling very so very tired, swollen belly, constipation or the contrary, loss of appetite, looking pale as hell. In the worst case people ask me what is wrong so I end up telling everyone about my cycle.

Day 2 : cramps can get worse, sometimes other symptoms diminish.

Day 3-5 : sometimes cramps are still there but most of the time I thank God for feeling better. Sometimes pain in the lower back begins.

Day 6-7 : above symptoms are gone ; sometimes sciatic pain (lower back and legs) that may stay for a week or 2 in the worst cases.

Now some months are better than other, with only 1 or 2 symptoms. But I never know what to expect at the beginning.

---------

Personally, I'm a customer of MH and I have emailed him about some products for her to try, but I felt that this was more your arena and thought you might have some insight.

Thank you for your time!
