I had a tummy tuck and lipo on my thighs and flanks in August of 2001. In the following February, I had lipo of my entire back and thighs again (I was REALLY porky!), an upper arm lift and upper eyelid lift. I am soooooo happy I did it! I have gone from a size 18 to a 12 and feel so much better about myself. It was uncomfortable during recovery of course, but I would not have changed a thing.

I had all of my surgeries done in the Dominican Republic. The doctor and nurses were superb and I had a 2-week "vacation" each time. There was a casino in the hotel I stayed in, so as soon as I felt up to it, I could go down and have some fun! And the food was great!

In fact, I loved the Dominican Republic so much that in September of 2002 I moved there! I live in the DR now and am the happiest I have ever been. The people, the weather, the food, the beer and the music are fantastic!

For significantly less than what it costs in the United States just to have the procedures you want, you could have all those procedures you want, and recover for 2 weeks in a classy hotel on the beach with all your meals included, beautician and massage service and a private health care worker! And that's including airfare. The doctors here are top notch and very supportive and attentive.

Because I have been through the experience and understand all that is involved, I am in the process of starting a service whereby I would personally pick my clients up at the airport, bring them to their hotel and get them checked in, bring them to meet with the doctor and provide any necessary interpretive services (Spanish is the main language spoken, but many people are fluent in English), provide transportation back and forth from the clinic to the hotel, and provide a health care worker for the duration of your stay. Because of the differences in the economies of the United States and the Dominican Republic, your US dollars go MUCH FARTHER here! That means that the highest quality of medical care is affordable to the average American (unlike in the States). Dominican plastic surgeons are renown among the world's rich and famous for their skill. As a matter of fact, reference was made to "Dominican doctors" in a recent episode of "Will and Grace". The word is getting around, but what most Americans don't know is that having cosmetic surgery in the Dominican Republic is affordable and of very high quality.

I have also had the pleasure of getting superb dental care here. In fact, I hadn't been to a dentist since I was 10 years old! My family could not afford regular dental care when I was a kid, and neither could I when I was an adult. Like many people, I thought of going to a dentist only out of agonizing pain (which I never had). I knew, however, that I must have a lot of cavities. I also had two ugly (not to mention DANGEROUS) metal fillings that I got at that visit when I was 10. When I moved to DR, I went to a dentist and to my dismay I found out that I needed fillings in almost every tooth in my head! Including my two front teeth! I was scared of the process and of how much it would cost. I also had ugly indentations at the top of my two front teeth that I was very self-conscious about, so I tried not to smile to much :( . In only 2 weeks of going to the dentist every few days (each visit lasting no longer than 20 minutes or so), I had a beautiful smile again! They removed my ugly metal fillings and replaced them with nice white plastic, drilled and filled all of my teeth and fixed the deformed indentations of my front teeth! I only had 2 shots of novocaine throughout those 2 weeks and I had no pain. But here is the best part....the entire bill came to only $400.00!!! I couldn't believe it! I cannot imagine how much it would have cost me in the States, not to mention the fact that they would have dragged it out over a period of months or years.

In February of last year, I brought my mom with me when I got my arm lift and lipo. Her teeth were TERRIBLE! She was missing a few, had mismatched caps on several due to years of bad dental care in the US and had lots of problems. She visited a dentist in the States who told her it would take several years to fix her teeth and would cost at least $20,000.00! Here, the dentist did all the work she needed in 5 days...total cost: $1,700.00! That was with a custom made bridge and all! Now she smiles all the time!

I am in the process of putting together a website for my cosmetic surgery vacation service. I plan to have everything up and running within the next several weeks. If you are interested, please write to me at JmrRos@netscape.net I will be happy to answer any questions you have about the process of getting plastic surgery or dental care in the Dominican Republic.
