Cognitive therapy really does work. I did it for a year, not for Depression though. Not everyone needs to take anything, and there are plenty of natural things you can take.
I also do a lot of self hypnosis. I would never ever take drugs for Depression or tranquilizers or anything.
I did once, about 30 years ago, after a marriage breakup and my gp just decided not to prescribe anymore for me, i think there was alot of publicity about gp's over prescribing.
The B**** didn't slowly lower the dose, just made me go cold turkey. I couldn't leave the house, with panic attacks and i developed agraphobia. It really messed my head up. Evil Evil drugs.
