" excessive amounts for a long time"
yep, can happen. in everything there is a balance. the great thing about Iodine is that it is correctable just by stopping. then finding the right amount and timing for stage two is the next chore. i am thinking a fully sufficient person would not need much on a daily basis or could do a big dose or two every once in a while to check the bad halogen/heavy metals levels. your idea of keeping the body thirsty for it is another approach, though many are not as clean as you are or might have special circumstances and exposures requiring more. working in an industry that uses a lot of halogens or heavy metals or like the bromides breathed in while flying a lot.
