I disagree with several of the statements:

1. "To curry favor with the new Nazi government, Reza in 1935, without warning or explanation, decreed that Persia would henceforth be named "Iran," or Land of the Aryans."

First of all, Iran has always been the land of the Aryans. Ask any respected historian and they will tell you that the Aryan race is not the so-called "Master Race" that Hitler made it. The Aryans were the ancient Medes, ancestors of the Persians. Hitler had no idea what he was talking about. Reza Shah did not change the name to please Hitler. He changed the name to bring Persia out of the Dark Ages, to give it a new world Identity. Even though cars, apppliances, and many more conveniances had already been built in the West, Iran was still a rural and Nomadic country. Reza Shah was in every right as much a modernizer as Peter the Great of Russia.

2. "The son kept the Nazi-racist name "Iran," "
This is also false. Although Reza Shah absolutely insisted that Persia be called Iran, Mohammad-Reza Shah did not. He made it known that Iran could be called Iran OR Persia. But the name stuck. And the name was not and still is in no way "Nazi-racist"

3. ""Iranians" have no history, no heritage, other than the Pahlavi dictatorship and the ghastly Ayatollah oppression following it."
Iranians have a great heritage and are extremely proud of it. Iranians know themselves as Iranians OR Persians and call their language "Farsi", "Persian", AND "Iranian".

4. "By studying that history (which is not allowed today)"
Not only is the study of the glorious Persian history allowed, but it is TAUGHT(from grade 1 all the way to University), and ENCOURAGED.

5. "Zoroastrianism is reviving in Iran now, with Nowruz (the Zoroastrian New Year coinciding with Spring Equinox) being celebrated by hundreds of thousands."
Zoroastrianism has never gone away. It is still one of the major religions in Iran. It's customs are still practiced. And Nowruz isn't celebrated by hundreds of thousands. It is celebrated by tens of millions. Noruz is the Persian National holiday, and is celebrated by EVERY Iranian Person. Wheather they are in Paris, Totonto, Los Angeles, or Iran.
Zoroastrianism is also not repressed. The sign of "Ahura-Mazda"-the zoroastrian god, the Avestan- the holy book of Zoroaster, and Ancient Persian figurines are some of the most popular items in stores in Iran. Cyrus the Great, and Ferdosi are revered as the greatest Iranians ever to have lived.

I think a bit more research is in order for you Dr. Wheeler so I recommend this site http://www.parstimes.com/Iran_history.html
Because a person with a PhD should not be corrected by a 16 year old.
