I was very disturbed, albeit not surprised, to hear about your experience in Baghdad. I am not an American, but have lived in the US for 15 years. I am married to an American, and both my husband and I have been following the assault on Iraq with an overwhelming sense of disillusion. Be assured that many Americans oppose what Bush is doing. There is a very fine line between oppression and salvation in this case. I honestly believe that if it were not for Iraq's oil, Bush wouldn't give a damn about Iraq. And as far as the "we have to protect ourselves by destroying Iraq's weapons of mass destruction" argument, I say: 1. If they really had the weapons, why haven't they used them yet? 2. When did the USA become the authority on policing who may or may not have these weapons? the US has them, why can't anyone else? And that's all I have to say about that, besides that I'm glad I kept my European ties so that I may leave this country if things REALLY get out of hand. (I'm sure you've heard about the thousands of detainees that are held at Guantanamo US Base only because they're Muslim...it's truly frightening!)
