Most likely family is powerless, as it is a mental illness issue. Unless she is institutionalised, nobody can do anything, just beg her to eat, which she obviously rejects. I don'nt think her mental issues are the results of poor nutritions, but rather most likely she's battled her demons before her starvation. Every episode shows up in a different form, mainly.
