For me, the most challenging part of the IP is exercising. At all. The first round, I danced. I just found some c/w line dancing videos on Youtube (thank you, Alan Jackson!)and "had me a good time." I also started doing yoga, which back then was a lot of lying on my back going "yeah, right." lol My workouts were really just "playouts."
The second round, the dance workouts got more challenging, where I was following along to some instructors doing the Bee Gees "Stayin' Alive." I'd rock out to old Bob Seger, do the Twist to the Beach Boys, and my kids were turning me on to Rage and Weezer. There I just tried to jump up and down a lot like the kids do at concerts. I could actually touch the floor from a standing position in yoga and actually do some of those lotus prayer hands crouching dog crocodile kind of poses. I started working my weak muscles, and began to see some definition in my weenie little biceps.
For this round, I've just noticed little movements that are becoming easier to do- like juicing carrots with one hand, when at the beginning it took all I had to push a carrot down the Champion with two hands. So EVIL Uny said "Crank it up!"
Why did it have to be a MOBILITY issue???
Dr. Schulze says 3 workouts a day to where you work up a good sweat, with an hour to be your eventual goal. No whiney excuses. Meh. :( But he also said we could have toys. :) Soooo...
I Facebooked my daughter-in-law, the fashion and fitness queen, and asked her for a full body workout video for beginners that really works. Her sister is a fitness trainer, runs marathons, and trains for Irongirl competitions, and they came up with a plan. I told her my food program (the IP juice + Superfood + raw vegan), that I was doing yoga for stretching and walking a mile for a cardio workout, but that was only 15 minutes, so I was also beginning to do some gentle moving as I was working in the kitchen.
The answer was long and very detailed. :) She said the TOP workout video out there was Jari Love's "Get Ripped" series. There are like six levels/videos, and you start with "Basic," using 2 pound hand weights, then as you progress, you move up to 3, then 5 pounds, etc. This is a 50 minute full body workout, includes a warmup and stretch, and is the series DIL has used for two years to lose over 70 pounds. My daughter-in-law is a dead ringer for Anne Hathaway now. I am not kidding.
I just bought a copy for $5.38 through Amazon.

DIL suggests doing this workout 3 days a week and walking 3 days a week in the same time slot. This would fall right in with the 12 week http://www.walkingsite.com
program of being able to walk for an hour in 12 weeks. A key to success for her has been to "set really low goals that are almost impossible to mess up" instead of setting herself up for failure and then quitting.
On top of this workout, I would continue to do my yoga for stretching, breathing, and calming/centering. Right now I'm pretty faithful about my morning yoga sessions, but I want to add a second one in the evening as a kind of wind-down if I can.
My DIL said I had a good handle on the food program (IP/juice/raw vegan/lots of Superfood), but she did say that you have to "feed your body specific to your workouts." I am not sure what she meant by that, but I *think* she was saying that since my goal is to finish losing the rest of my excess body weight through cleansing, a great food plan, and exercising, plus gain and maintain strength and endurance, I need to eat food that will do that (my actual goal is to heal MD, but we all speak our own language). She also made an interesting comment that at one point she wasn't taking in enough calories and her body hung on to the weight it had, because it believed she was starving. She started eating more (of the right kind of food), and the weight started falling off again and she could build lean muscle mass. I think this goes right along with Dr. Schulze saying to eat 3000-5000 calories a day (IF you're working out like this) in juices, etc.
Now I want to make a VERY careful point to say that if you are doing anything close to Schulze's healing program, you MUST start with at least 14 days (and 30 is way better) of a COMPLETE juice fast with Superfood ONLY. I have done SEVERAL 15 day, two 30 day, and a 45 day juice fast, and STILL "mostly" juice along with raw vegan foods. If you even THINK about veering off the food program that Dr. Schulze and Christopher used to heal 1000s and 1000s of people, you talk to Uny or me first.
DIL mentioned drinking juices and water and that's it. On the IP we "get" to drink the herbal teas and the potassium broth, too, but I got a definite "no coffee" message, which I got from Uny today, too (waaa....).
Here are more toys. :)
Shoes! If you get them from http://www.zappos.com
you can try them for a day and if you don't like them you can pack them back up in the box, mail them back for free, and try the next pair. DIL said for walking on pavement/hard surfaces (my track is blacktopped) to get Asics Gels. http://www.zappos.com/product/7487022/color/176821
This particular model is designed for extra stability, which I need. Read the descriptions for your needs.
Sports bras! This one by Nike is very highly rated by female athletes. http://www.nike.com/nikeos/p/nikewomen/en_US/clothing?ll=en_US&ct=US&pid=2234...
My one concern is that it is nylon, but it doesn't have much of a back to it, so maybe for an hour a day it would be OK??? If not, we have to find a cotton one that gives us true support and we don't have to keep tugging on while we work out. In general, ladies, we need to be wearing 100% cotton or silk lingerie, and all natural fiber everything else, end of story. Another option to work out with weights would be a long bra top, and those I KNOW you can get in 100% cotton for pretty cheap. I recently bought one on sale for $5 at Kohl's. You can get boy shorts, tanks, bra tops, etc. for your gym/weights/yoga workouts at the outlets, Marshall's, TJ Maxx etc.
DIL is a serious distance runner so she had a lot to say about what to wear when you run.
DIL's favorite running bra is from Under Armor, called "Stability."
Running tops! I'm not there yet, but even with walking at a pretty good clip, most of us need pretty firm support. DIL likes these: http://www.nike.com/nikeos/p/nikewomen/en_US/clothing?ll=en_US&ct=US&pid=2228...
but she says we can also just layer a good running bra under a regular top. Again, the Nike top isn't cotton, but it wisks the perspiration away and prevents chafing.
Running/walking shorts! Nike again: http://www.nike.com/nikeos/p/nikewomen/en_US/clothing?ll=en_US&ct=US&pid=1995...
DIL said to get shorts with the undies sewn into them and then you don't have to worry about chafing or modesty issues. Personally I have PT shorts from the US Army which are very similar to these Nike's.
For yoga or Pilates, we are barefoot, of course. And we just wear comfortable clothes we can bend and stretch in. Palazzo pants are great, as are leggings.
You fellas have it so much easier! lol
NONE of this stuff is necessary. What IS necessary is that you work up a good sweat every day.
Oh, and don't be stupid- watch your heat index and make sure you stay well hydrated....
Have fun out there!
