I started by considering that I have PCOS, and that this is often linked to insulin resistance, which is linked to diabetes. So I was at the bookstore looking for yet another diet/nutrition book, when I came across The pH Solution for Diabetes. I decided to give it a read, and it really made sense to me. What I especially like is that this approach states that there is only ONE cause of disease, namely a pH imbalance. For those of us who have searched for a solution forever, the simplicity of this approach is very appealing. I know that my body is acidic because prior to going on the diet I had horrible eating habits which rarely included vegetables beyond a slice of lettuce on my hamburger. pH strips confirmed my diagnosis. I can barely get above a 5.5 reading, which is the lowest on the strips. I have been working on balancing my pH for a couple of weeks now. I can now get up to 6.25 on the strips.

By the way, my weight gain started when I got married 9 years ago and went on birth control. Always "chunky," my weight went out of control due to the birth control and constant eating out with my new husband. We also exercised heavily by playing 2-3 hours of tennis a day. Even though I was working my butt off, I was gaining weight. I decided a few years ago that the birth control had caused candida, so I went on a candida diet of vegetables and meat, no sugars/starches of any kind. It helped a lot and I lost 40 pounds. But then I got pregnant and went way off track. So now I am trying to get back on track. My diet is similar to a candida diet, with the focus on vegetables and protein, but I am not so rigid in avoiding fruit, nuts, sprouted bread, oatmeal, etc., which I eat in small amounts or every other day. I have lost 12.5 pounds in three weeks, but the best part is that I am not longer so bloated.

The book mentioned above does not reference PCOS specifically, although there is a chapter on women and common health challenges. I was disappointed in the lack of information on PCOS. I am also currently reading Different Bodies, Different Diets by Carolyn Mein. I am familiar with D'Adamo's Blood Type Diet and also Dr. Abbravanel's Body Type Diet, and it is always frustrating to see someone with my same blood type or diet who is completely different from me. Different Bodies, Different Diets addresses these differences and provides different food lists for each type. So I am combining the principles of eating to balance pH with foods specific to my body type (spleen) AND combining my foods according to the instructions in the Biochemical Machine by Eleonora Delennart. (I have a TON of books on nutrtition and diet).
