Cortisol tests are no where near accurate. Your levels taken one minute will be different a minute later, and an hour later, and a day later, and week later...... This is because hormones are in a constant state of flucuation. Even simple things like a cup of coffee or the stress of being stuck with a needle will greatly alter your cortisol levels. Again, this is why symptoms are a better indicator of adrenal function.

In a related example thyroid hormones are in the same boat, which is why thyroid tests miss cases of hypothryoidism the majority of the time. This is why people should go low tech and do their basal body temperature for at least a week. This is so much more accurate than a blood draw in determining hypothyroidism, especially when combined with other classic symptoms of hypothyroidism.
