I understand the sentiments of the atheism. I also understand the intuitive understandings of the theism.
The problem is that we tend to think of things either being one way or the other...ONLY. In the sphere of spirituality, this is the result of dualism formalized by the cartesian split of matter and spirit. This is also exemplified by the Newtonian mechanized universe that has been dogma for centuries but has since been long outmoded by relativity theory and quantum theory. Theorists such as Richard Dawkins posit that there is clearly no "God". I would agree by his definition of God that he hopes to prove non-existent. Yes, there is no patriarchal, anthropomorphic spirit-being sitting on the throne in the sky twiddling his white beard. There is no external creator "God."
I also resonate with the beliefs of those that intuitively sense a teleological thrust of the universe and know that love, compassion, empathy are not just accidental epiphenomenon of brain chemistry- the byproduct of chemical "A" interacting with chemical "B".
This dualistic shift that happened long ago- even before the advent of agriculture, cemented the concept of a "God" that must be a personified, remote manipulator of the world. With Newton, "God" was the eternal watchmaker who tinkered with a giant mechanical universe.
Yes, the atheist is right- there is no external creator God. And yes, the mystics are also correct- there is spirit.
So, what is the Truth that has been hinted at by so many for so long??
YOU ARE GOD! I am God. The plants are God. The earth is God. The universe is God.
God is not a being, God is ALL THAT IS. There is nothing but God, so the term "God" doesn't apply become it intimates that this is one thing removed from everything.
Spirit did not create the universe...Spirit IS the universe self-manifesting.
