I think that having your hormones checked is a great idea, but the problem that I ran into when I had them checked too early is that you have to check certain ones at certain times of your cycle. No one was able to interpret my results because they didn't know where I should be in my cycle. The ones that were low (testosterone) and it didn't matter what time of the month it is checked, they said it's normal for that to be low when you've been on birth control. My DHEA was almost below normal also. And this is a precursor for estrogen, progesterone and testosterone secreted by the adrenals.
From what I can gether, these hormones all feed off of each other.
progestin=> low progesterone=> estrogen dominance=> low cholesterol=> low DHEA=> low testosterone
Another idea:
progestin=> synthetic molecules bind to hormone receptors=> body recognizes progestin as foreign substance that needs to be eradicated=> immune system works overtime=> adrenals think it's an emergency=> increased cortisol pumping=> exhausted adrenals
I would print up a list of the symptoms of menopause or hormonal imbalance and highlight the ones you have and give it to her.
