I am sorry to hear that you had a bad experience (more like horrible) with Prolotherapy however, I don't think it was the treatment that failed, more like the abilities of the person injecting you.
I have personally had about 9 treatments over a two and a half year period between 2002 and 2005. The doctor I went to was a certified Physiologist and absolutely wonderful. He did all of my treatment, never any of his assistants.
I had been in a car wreck that did a lot of ligament damage in my head, neck, all the way down my spine and into my pelvis. Before I got my first treatment, I could not sit, stand, or walk more than 5 mins at a time and was in horrible pain in all of the areas and my lower left leg was numb most of the time. After my first treatment within days, the numbness in my leg went away and I was finally able to sit, stand, and walk more than 5 mins at a time. I had also been diagnosed with Myofascial pain syndrome because of my injuries and had many trigger points that would cause aweful side effect, like burning skin all over my body, the prolotherapy in the trigger points also alleviated those symptoms and most of the trigger points themselves. Prolotherapy literally saved my life. Now I am able to function normally without too much pain, unless I get crazy doing yardwork or something then my lower back bothers me some, but it's nothing that rest won't fix.
I highly advise this procedure to anyone in pain, though I would doing your research on specific doctors that do this procedure and follow your intuition about the doctors.
