Thank you for a very interesting response!

I have been aware of the succession of plant types for many years, having observed it both over several decades in my own yard and along the more undisturbed trails that I walk regularly.

It is very exciting to learn more about these and how to work with nature instead of against it!

Since I would like too keep the mugwort at that particular spot, sounds like my plan of removing mulches is correct???
