Correct, the sodium chlorite quickly forms chlorite and that is what is absorbed into the blood and other organs of the body.

There is no way to measure if chlorine dioxide is absorbed into the red blood cells. It is an interesting theory, but there is no proof that this actually happens. The mechanism of chlorite in animals and humans is also not well understood, so we are once again left speculating and offering ideas on what might be going on.
