The immune system can also turn on you in a dime.
There are microbes that can mimic self antigens, and therefore cause autoreactive antibodies to unwittingly attack self tissue, or simply cause autoimmune like symptoms--for life.
We live in an age, where some of these parasites\pathogens can be identified, and destroyed. It involves knowing the target, and knowing the weapon[s]. Shroom
