'Sage -
This is NOT "really stupid"...FAR from it!! Don't make me get the rolling pin! :::wink:::
I just went back and reread your PM (which I mentioned I'd be responding to tonight...I thought it was a forum post - silly me). First, the facts (as I know them)--
--I really like The Road Back program and nutriceuticals for withdrawal from psych drugs and sedatives (psychotropics). That's what the program was designed to address, and I've known several for whom it was very effective.
--I'm concerned they've suggested it will work equally well for withdrawal off of HC. This doesn't sound "right" to me:
>>> I contacted 'The Road Back' program to see if the program was applicable to HC weaning. The were very helpful and said that YES it would be beneficial to use the program. They said they have had a number of inquiries to this exact question lately.<<<<
They say it WOULD be beneficial, but they've only had "inquiries"? I'd want to see the testimonies & results of those that had used a program specifically designed for psychotropics successfully used for folks with long-term adrenal stress and use of HC.
>>>Anyway their program suggests not being on any cleanses fasts and I understand their philosophy and I know the use certain neutroceuticals that have proven extremely effective.<<< Remember, this program has proven extremely effective for *psychotropics* - unless you have evidence otherwise, we have no idea that it will be beneficial for HC.
Getting off all the supporting/adaptogenic herbs you've been using is likely to throw you into a harsh state of "owie"...and you'll likely have to up the dose of HC to compensate for it. You're not support to start withdrawing until you've reached a stable point...so if you're going to do TRB, be SURE to stabilize as recommended.
As you likely know, TRB site is not 'searchable', so I can't find if they've added any research data about it's use & effectiveness for supporting/restoring the adrenal glands when withdrawing from HC. WAIT, I can do a Google search and search only on their site/domain. Okay, the only thing I find regarding the HPA axis and adrenal issues are the 'weight gain' thing and how the HPA/adrenals are affected by psychotropics (unsimilar in MANY ways to how they're effected by HC). And they recommend the use of Vitamin C for the adrenal/weight thing. I just sent you an email with a file on the unknown dangers of Vitamin C. We all know that if Vitamin C were the answer, the thousands of people that have tried it would be healed already :::sigh:::
Hummingbird Sage, I'm NOT trying to dissuade you from giving TRB a try...I'd just feel more confident knowing how this program is going to work for stressed adrenals that have been forced into non-action via HC...when it's designed toworks for the HPA axis/adrenals as they're effected by psychotropics (which may be the same ballpark, but an entirely different ballgame).
--How fast have you been cutting the dose? As you know already (but for those reading):
>>>Sudden withdrawal or reduction in dosage may precipitate acute adrenal insufficiency with symptoms such as malaise, muscle weakness, mental changes, muscle and joint pain, desquamation of the skin, dyspnoea, anorexia, nausea and vomiting, fever, hypoglycaemia, hypotension and dehydration.
Hydrocortisone withdrawal should always be gradual, the rate depending upon the individual patient's response, the dose, and the duration of therapy.<<<
So it's VERY possible you may be cutting too fast for you :(
I KNOW how desperately you want off this drug, but cutting too fast is only going to lead to backslides & repeated effort (yes, I despise the PTB).
Okay, regarding your question about the IF#1: I'm assuming that due to the instructions of TRB, that you've not only stopped taking the IF#2, you've stopped taking the Ashwagandha, the Adrenal/Glandular tinctures and the St. John's (and any garlic you might have been taking?) or not?
If you have, then there's WAY too many variables in the mix to think the cause is simply "IF#1 without IF#2" :( Zillions of people have taken IF#1 for years without taking IF#2...so that shouldn't cause what you're experiencing.
However, your body is USED to the IF#2 helping to adsorb toxins, and it's used to the daily fiber to go along with the IF#1. IF#1 can take some 'getting used to' when used without the IF#2 (or even WITH the IF#2)
Most people need LESS IF#1 when not taking IF#2...so if you're taking the same amount of IF#1 as you were with the IF#2, that's likely the cause of your diarrhea.
The cause of a bladder infection is a pathogen - perhaps you've had a deep-seated infection? (if you stopped the raw garlic then the infection might manifest).
You've likely thought of this (but again, for those reading that may not have) - if you've stopped all the adrenal supporting, adaptogenic herbs, what you're seeing is how much good they really were doing.
Also, I know *you* are not worried about the small amount of benzo usage over the past years (right???) but I AM concerned. I know how insidious these drugs can be, how they damage the GABA/calming receptors (and it can take YEARS to restore them). If you go ahead with TRB, be SURE to include the Xanax.
:::sigh::: I wish (OH how I wish) I could be more positive - but truth is always best. I'll do my BEST to support you in every way I can...but TRB interferes with the IP substantially, so from here on out, please email your questions and we'll schedule a time we can chat on the phone. When it's all "said and done", we can make a couple of 'testimony' reports/posts (no matter how it turns out), but since TRB conficts with the IP (I know you understand), I'd like to keep this "off forum" :)
