#111629,
Olivia may have been consuming vitamins/minerals, but is it known exactly WHAT she has been taking and in what quantities/dosages? AND........ even if they are bioavailable supplements, and not just cheap alternatives which are not absorbed by the body.
Supplements only supp-le-ment a nutritious diet, and where those she has been taking are probably inadequate in terms of other nutrients she is NOT taking, and which will most certainly result in other deficiencies that will certainly develop as a consequence.
If she is taking ONLY a vitamin supplement then this would result in mineral deficiencies, as vitamins are useless in the body without minerals and vica-versa.
I am concerned in case she is deficient in essential fatty acids, which are probably not being supplemented as far as I know, and even a protein deficiency with such an extended length of fast, resulting in potential damage to her organs: in other words...starvation.
The other possible issue is whether the supplements she is taking are "masking" these other deficiencies which could lead to serious harm and even permanent damage.
I don't think it is a question of whether the Sheltons and/or Fuhrmans and other professional fasting supervisors of this World were or have been right or wrong in not supplementing on a fast, but at least without supplements they knew where they stood in assessing the safe length of a properly conducted fast by the clinical and vital signs of the faster/patient.
To my mind these are not rationally thought-out fasts and delving into the unknown for the first time, and where it has been driven by "religious-motives" that are sometimes irrational and have no basis in the real World.
Mind over matter, in terms of the possible genuine return of hunger, and then ignoring this powerful signal purely for religious reasons would be sheer lunacy.
It should also be remembered that the fasters of the Bible only fasted for 40 days and most without liquid, but these were supernatural fasts that are just not applicable to us mere mortals. Jesus of Nazareth encouraged his followers to do good deeds/fast/pray in secret so that only the Father/ABBA will know, and NOT to do these deeds/prayers/fasts openly for the attention and praise of men.
This goes against the grain of the teachings of Jesus Christ.
I remain concerned for her well-publicized physical and mental well-being.
Chrisb1.
