I really thought I loved my Mirena. The first two weeks were really painful for me, but after that it seemed like smooth sailing. My periods were almost nonexistent and I didn't have to worry about birth control. However, my sex drive pretty much completely depleted. On top of that, I have been experiencing a lot of pain in my left side lately and they found a HUGE ovarian cyst. I read on the Mirena website this can be a side effect. It landed me in the ER because the pain was so severe. Now I may have to have surgery to have it removed because it's not shrinking and hurts more. I have to take pain medication which is really hard because I have three small children, but I cannot deal with the pain otherwise. I was sketchy about putting it in because Mirena is so new, but I didn't want to have my tubes tied even though I am 99% sure I don't want more kids. I was not 100% so the Mirena seemed ideal for me. I am having it removed now maybe I will just have my tubes tied who knows. It really just has not worked out for me which is too bad! I really loved it up until now. Just be careful whoever has Mirena. It is still really new and they are uncovering side effects as they go. Many people don't know that the market research is performed by the company that is marketing it and not regulated very well. That is why so many medications and birth controls are taken off the market later. I am not trying to scare anyone just keep up with what is going on, and pay attention to new side effects. Good luck.
