All human realtionships, without exception, not just romantic ones, are about power. In a healthy relationship, the power is balanced, more or less, and the one that holds the most power can shift back and forth. In a dysfunctional relationship, the power is not balanced. That is because either one person is giving it away...or one person is stealing it.

Yes, the words and actions of another person can drain you and make you desperate, even if feeling that way is not in your basic personality makeup. It has happened to me several times...actually many times when you take into consideration office relationships, certain friendships...even family ties...but the more intimate the relationship the worse it is.

Keep that in mind the next time you consider going back to see him after a fight without him calling you first. The next time he turns his back on you to play a computer game when you visit him...the next time he keeps you hanging by the phone for days... because when he does these things,he is stealing your power. Stealing your power builds his ego and makes him feel good while it leaves you begging for attention...
