There are a couple of things I would warn you about concerning this form of treatment: First, you need to understand the necessary concentrations of this gas in order for its use to be effective and the health effects on occupants, including necessary cleaning needing performed after its application. Chlorine Dioxide is considered a hazardous gas, typically used where made because of its hazardous potential effects on those exposed to it. Check out, for example, the Agency of Toxic Substances & Disease Registry's site on this: http://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/toxprofiles/phs160.html.

Second, even studies that promote its use as a disinfectant say that this gas does not remove the allergens associated with the airborne mold fragments and spores. In some studies it was found to detoxify the spores, but in no case were the spores and/or other byproducts of mold removed! Proper remediation practices should include engineering controls to limit the amount of dust generated during remediation, and remove airborne particluates and gases from the abatement area (without cross contaminating non-affected areas).

The last things I will mention for your consideration is that sampling of mold can not be quantified even in a AIHA certified laboratory because there is no quantity or volume of air to measure the spore results to. For example, most professionals utilize a sampling method that includes a recorded volume of air flow through a sampling media used so that laboratory results can be specific to a measurable size or mass of area (spores per meter cubed, for example). These results give the educated inspector measurable results to go along with their other on-site investigation so that a specific protocol (scope of work) can be written.

I am not mentioning this to discredit anyone in particular. As a professional, myself, I just want to make sure you understand there are things you should consider when trying to protect you and your family's health and safety.
