Hello Trapper,

Once you clean up the existing mold, and dry up the source problem, the next step is to minimize any re-growth and odors, and kill off the free floating spores.

I have found that chlorine dioxide gas does a very good job of this. It penetrates through the carpet and pad, furniture, and gets into all the remote nooks and crannies. It is also quite inexpensive. You can pick up a single use micro generator that takes care of a room, set it up in a small amount of water, leave the room, come back in a few hours and air it out and the whole process is done.

In areas that are prone to mold growth, like bathrooms, there are 30 day slow release chlorine dioxide units that are activated by the moisture in the air. Take a shower and the humidity increases. This activates the generator to make sure no mold grows during this transition period. When the humidity drops, the generator shuts down and waits for the next high humidity situation.

I have been impressed with how well these things work, and have had very good luck using them. Killing the mold and mildew is only part of the solution, but this seems to be a very effective way to handle that part.
