actually the food supply is better today than in the 1920s
back then they ate heavily preservated and salted meats , a common preservative was made from liquified coal
stomach cancer was the most prevalent form of cancer

just because you get a wider choice of bad stuff today doesn't mean you have to eat it , the choice was much less in the 20s.
