SARA,
I do not doubt your experience of suicidal thoughts on your fast, but this would only have been of a temporary nature.
It is quite common for fasters in the early stages to undergo a period of "mental depression" and by varying degrees, but after "sitting this out" for a few more days, the thoughts evaporate and where the mind becomes more buoyant and clear..............................
This was also my own experience on my first extended fast of 25 days.

We should also distinguish between what you describe as "starvation mode" and ACTUAL starvation.................

It is impossible for the body to starve to death until the skeleton condition has been reached, and where even the most underweight person has ample food reserves to last a prolonged period of abstinence.
The cravings you have described are nothing more than wishful thinking and the thought of being without and deprived of food.
A psychological experience, but not a physiological one.
Kind regards
Chrisb1.
