My husband's father died 15 years ago--cancer of the esophogus. It was determined to have been caused by the fall-out, and my mother-in-law got the $50,000 "award".

She was telling me about one of the clouds that came over- her husband was working in the field, and was glad to see her when she got worried and went to pick him up. The mother of the niece that was found to have the breast cancer (age 33), was having a tea party outside with her cousins when one of the clouds came over, and they came running inside because they thought it was going to storm. The "government officals" were around here with their geiger counters, and told everyone how safe it was, nothing to be concerned about...but they wouldn't come out of their motel rooms. My mother-in-law said people were writing their names in the "dust"...and the geiger counters were going biserk.

My father and his brother and step-father were riding for a ranch when one of the clouds came over. He said they all got the worst "sunburns" they'd ever had. His step-father died of cancer 9 months later. My grandma tried to do the paperwork herself to get the "compensation", and didn't get very far with it. They are still giving the $50,000 "rewards" to those found to have cancers they've connected to the fall-out (or their survivors).

BTW--Dad and his brother both have had prostate cancer.
