Actually it says that the mechanism is unknown. So the study is somewhat up to interpretation. A lot of things that are cytoxic can be released upon destruction of a cell.
Easiest thing to do is to avoid magnesium supplementation until all the research is in and all the facts can be determined. There are obviously a lot of questions to be answered such as why don't green leafy vegetables aggravate Candida when the chlorophyll in them is magnesium rich? Again, starting with knowing the form of magnesium used in the study would be a good start.
