After this was posted I started consuming coconut oil and using it on my skin and I cannot believe what happened. At first my skin became extremely rough and dry on my face and hands. It was so bad that I was a little worried. It looked and felt terrible, like my grandmother's skin at 98. But I stuck with it just to see what would happen.
I read a lot of posts that spoke of coconut oil making people's skin drier so they gave up. Anyway, I had the feeling that somehow it was healing it. I read and read about coconut oil and its properties. Apparently, the high antioxidant content really goes deep into the damaged areas to repair damaged tissue and help slough off dead cells. Well several days later and my skin is getting, very, very smooth. The dryness is flaking off. AND my freckles on my face and chest are fading. AND an age/liver spot that was on my hand is almost gone after just a few days! It is interesting that my face and hands seemed to get the driest when I first started putting the oil on. These are the areas most exposed to the elements and free radicals. I am totally convinced that coconut oil has some very unique healing properties.
I am ingesting it as well and it is killing my cravings for sweets and junk food. Hopefully it will lead to weight loss too.
I think what happened initially with the oil pulling was that I was getting the oil I needed when I first started and therefore my skin softened. Maybe somehow my body got used to it and the skin dried up again. I needed more oil than oil pulling alone was providing! When I first started eating the coconut oil I was so hungry for it that I could have eaten a cup of the stuff. My body really wanted it.
I am going to keep drenching myself in coconut oil externally and internally (2-3tbs a day) and see how my skin improves over time. Oh, and I bought the Coconut Miracle book. A very interesting read.
