I have a very good food processor thanks, it does much the same as a Vita-Mix, it can grind up frozen rasberries and blueberries and make things like this:
And yes, I actually think Kale tastes OK, but just a few leaves. When cooked, I learned a trick, put lemon juice on it and it makes it taste sweet. But I like it with and without lemon juice.
I may knock the beer on the head for a while, will post about that in a minute. On thje raw spuds thing take a look at the comments here. It's hard to believe, but here is an edited selction containing most of the positive ones. There weren't really any negatives, just a chat about getting worms from eating them, which was said to be an "old wives tale":
I have now reached the tender age of 60 (you get there at a fast rate once you reach 30) I have always eaten raw potatoes, straight from the ground as I used to spend my summer holidays with an aunt who picked them in the season as a way to earn money.
i”ve eaten raw potatoes since i was a child and now at 36 still eat loads my children eat the odd one and the worst thing i was told was we would all get worms which i now have learned is an old wives tale cant beat the good old spud.
My favorite food in the world is a peeled raw potato with some salt.
I am 71 and have eaten raw potatoes all my life. They are better if not old.
So my mom was fussing at me because I was eating a raw potatoe. She told me that they weren’t good for me and that I would become very sick if i kept eating them. So, to prove her wrong, I googled this in online! ..Thanks guys! Now I can eat all the raw potatoes I want to! : D
I love raw potato’s peeled and soaked in cold water in the fridge, they are so watery and juicy, not to mention crunchy. I love the taste in my mouth especially after chewing it for a minute. I go through a 10lb bag a week. I crave raw potato’s. I peel and eat the potato daily. I like all kinds.
Hi I am so happy to find some raw potato eating folks out there! My husband always says it’s bad for me but i always ignored him thinking most raw vegies are good for you, Why not potatoes? I have been eating them since I was a kid, when Mom was cooking I would swipe a few pieces and I still love them especially with a little salt. I just read a great article about their benefits for the release of seratonin in the brain. Its like an antidepressant. You can read that @ radiantdiscovery. com. or read Potatoes not Prozac. I always try natural remedies before drugs. I also use my spuds for eye injuries, I swear by it! It has worked on myself and my kids and my husband just recently used it for a stye…I make like a poultice with some hot tea leaves and place it in a coffee filter then plop right on the infected or scratched eye ( keep it pretty hot but not scorching) and I swear in minutes you will feel relief but after a few days the problem clears up. So the potato is a wonderful SPUD!!!!!!
… as kids we didn’t get potato chips as a snack (not in the budget), but my Dad would slice raw potatoes and raw onions on a plate with salt, vinegar and pepper and we would all dig in. I still love them and it beats the price of junk food.
I brought a 50 lb bag of potatoes about 2 weeks ago. I now have a lot of potatoes, I just eat a little here and there. but I’m been making baked potatoes, french fries and always eat a raw piece when peeling the potatoe. I just love em. and eat a raw potatoe just about everyday. And I’m still craving them.
Still eating them, and still Love em. washed peeled, soaked and kept in the fridge. “Ummm”, even my little one ask’s for potatoes. He didn’t eat them at first, but after seeing me eat them, he eat’s them, and he like them. I’ve been eating potatos raw fo over 10 years now. I can eat a potato washed, peeled, & slice every day. Morning, Noon, & Night
I went and tried it, cold and with salt, and it was nice. I am on a diet that is rice and potatoe free but I tried it anways. I was craving starch I guess.
Well, I am so glad I found this discussion! I used to eat raw potatoes with salt when I was a child
Yipee! I am NOT the only one out there that eats raw potatoes. I love them. Just as they are, no salt needed for me (although I will try it some time). I must say that raw potatoes are much sweeter than cooked ones. Not only that, but they are crunchy and absolutely delicious.
Have any of you eaten raw sweet taters? I’ve always nibbled a slice or two of raw potatoes while prepping dinner, now I’m mostly raw vegan (lost 200 lbs, turned 40, feel younger than I EVER have my entire adult life, wooohooooo!)
I was looking for the calorie content of a raw potatoes and stumbled here. I just ate a raw potato salad. (Julienne Russet potatoes w/one of those Japanese Mandolin Slicers. Some carrots can be added also. Rinse w/cold water to remove starch. Keep overnight in water, refrigerate. Drain water. Top w/salad dressing/sliced cucumbers, etc.) I’m guessing it doesn’t have very many calories since rinsing them in water removes the starch! =)
Just spoke with Jack LaLanne who is still going strong at 93 yrs.. He said raw potatoes are delicious when juiced and that you get a lot more vitamins out of them since they are not cooked out. I’ve been juicing yams which indeed are delicious, now I’ll try regular potatoes.
Since 2005 I have been looking around to see if there was anyone out there who enjoys raw potatos… Me thinking I must be missing some kind of nutrient or im just completly crazy… See the weird thing is I only crave them during pregnancy after having the baby I have no need for raw potatos… I peel them rince in cold water and add some salt and I can eat a lot of potatos in a week. Doesn’t matter the kind but prefer Red…
I have loved raw Potato’s for as long as i can remember…My husband thinks i am weird i crave a raw potato every night and love the taste..
I also like raw potatoes, theres just something bout them mmmmmmm!!!!
Potatoes have lots of phytochemicals in them: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/10/071006085656.htm “The team’s analysis of Red and Norkotah potatoes, for example, revealed that the spuds’ total dietary-phenolics content rivaled that of broccoli, spinach and brussel sprouts. These phenols included the flavonoids subgroup, which may play a role in helping diminish cardiovascular disease, respiratory problems and certain cancers, notes Navarre, at the ARS Vegetable and Forage Crops Research Unit in Prosser, Wash.” Here’s another in interesting item from: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/06/070625080937.htm “Spanish researchers found that growing pigs fed large quantities of raw potato starch (RPS) had a healthier bowel. Not a surprise, but they also found that RPS pigs had decreased levels of white blood cells, such as leucocytes and lymphocytes in their blood. White blood cells are produced as a result of inflammation or disease, generally when the body is challenged.”
Umm, Love those raw, rinsed, cold potato’s. Just mouth watering. Right now I have a bag of the large yellow potato, but I like the russet better.
I have loved raw potatoes since I was a little kid. Now I’m 35 and still the same. I have a new dog and she LOVE LOVE LOVEs some raw taters too.
I have been eating raw potatoes since I was a kid, my uncle use to make them in a salad, with salt, pepper, onions, garlic, cucumber, and vinegar. I am the only person I know that eats raw potatoes! I was shocked to see that my uncle, Lord Bless the dead, and I are not the only raw potato lovers out there! I crave them at nite, its a nice snack for me, well I’m glad to know that they are healthy! That could be partly why I have been so healthy in all of my 28 years! If my uncle hadn’t had an accident he’d still be here healthy as ever to ! Long live the Raw Potato Lovers! Hey we should start a club or group. lol
I’ve also been eating raw potatoes for 40+ years. I eat at least one a day. However, sometimes I crave them so badly I feel as if by body is telling me I’m missing a certain vitamin or something. My favorite raw potatoe is the red-skin, with just a touch of lite-salt. My husband thinks I’m disgusting, but he’s gotten used to it.
I have eaten raw potatoes, since i was 6, am now 28. I don’t know any one else who enjoys them, they are defo missing out!!!!!
Raw potatoes contain resistant starch (RS2). This starch makes it to the colon where it ferments and makes some wonderful fatty acids. Do a little research on RS2; it’s amazing stuff.
I really love locally grown food. If everyone chose to do something a little more “green” it would have a great effect on the earth. [I agree with this!]
Oh my! I also crave raw potatoes. My mouth will water for them. However, I cut them in thin chip slices & put them in a deep bowl & cover them with white vinegar & a dash of pepper! I then eat them saturated with the vinegar & add salt to each piece as I eat them.
I’ve eaten them every night before I go to bed. My wife thought it was funny and a little annoying from all the noise. I thought maybe I was missing some nutrients or something the way I’ve always craved them. What ever it is I just had some while I was reading this and they were good.
I have craved raw potatoes on and off for years. Just recently I’ve been craving them daily. I have my boyfriend addicted to them now too. Is there something in them that the body is lacking which causes these cravings???
