Socal girl - I agree with completely. What I've come to realize as I get older is that life is all about finding your own truth and happiness.

Alot of this I learned from my wife who is a very private person. She doesn't look for approval from anybody, isn't swayed by flattery and is ridiculously idealistic, stubborn and uncompromising for what she believes is right.

This is good and bad for me since it's cost me relationsips along the way and has narrowed my social circles. But it's right for her and has inspired me to look for what's right for me - not what's expected of me.

She questions absolutely everything including social expectations, messages and manipulation from the media, government, religious leaders - pretty much everyone in a position of power. Because she rightly sees through their selfish and manipulative agendas.

I've always believed that all creatures on this earth are born into bondage, burden and suffering. And minimizing the suffering of ourselves and all other creatures while we're here is the only achievement that matters - in however a big or small way we can swing it.

Whether that makes us a rockstar, a hero of the masses, or a private person contented to live with a good heart - it really doesn't matter.

The social pressure of "being somebody", working yourself to death so you can get close to the lifestyle your favorite TV characters enjoy, believing what our supposed to believe and being who you're supposed to be are all forms of bondage.

Finding your own way and minimizing your bondage are keys to a good life. Though it's always scary away from the safety of the heard, our particular heard at this point in time is marching off cliffs anyway. So it's as good a time as any to find your own way.
