If the phlegm is coming from the lungs and not draining from the sinuses then green or greenish-yellow phlegm is more indicative of pneumonia. Brown or blackish phlegm indicates bronchitis. Either way Antibiotics should NEVER be given without a culture first to confirm a bacterial infection. Fungal infections of the sinuses are very common and Antibiotics will only make the condition much worse.

Here is a simple trick though to clear up infections. I recommend mixing chaparral, thyme and horseradish powders together in equal proportions. Chaparral and thyme can be found in health food stores. You can find wasabe (Japanese horseradish) powder in grocery stores. Fill '00' capsules with the mixture. Recommended dose is 2 capsules 3 times daily on an empty stomach. In addition add 8 to 10 drops of eucalyptus essential oil to a separate capsule. Recommended dose here is one capsule 3 times daily before meals. The chaparral and oils from the other 3 ingredients are full range antiseptics. They kill viruses, bacteria and fungus. The oils will exist the body through the lungs destroying any infections in the process. The formula is specific to the respiratory passages, so it will not cause secondary infections like Antibiotics will. The longest I have ever seen it take to wipe out an infection was 3 days. So it is quick and effective.

This is for adults only though. Because eucalyptus oil can be toxic this should not be given to children.
