Actually,

Establishing a good population of beneficial bacteria, and then maintaining it could take years for people who have been\are very acidic (they must correct this problem through dietary changes which could take time if they were not aggressive about it) and\or have assimilation issues\problems due to intestinal villi damage to one degree or another... these folk's intestinal tracts will not support nor hold onto populations of beneficial bacteria well, if at all, until such time as they may see healing.

Many folks with uncontrollable and seemingly incurable Candida issues fit into this category IMO...

For these people, digestive enzymes with meals, and probiotics are musts... perhaps proteolytic enzymes will be needed as well. I am not in favor of supplementing as a rule, however there are cases where I feel they are necessary and essential... and this would be one of them.

HOWEVER, in terms of enzymes, a primarily raw diet with lots of juicing can be used in place of the purchased "enzymes"... AND, cultured and fermented foods can replace the purchased probiotics of both lacto and bifido strains.

Also note that soil based organisms may be of benefit.

This may be the better option dependent upon health and tolerance for the necessary radical dietary changes as each one of us has a different, and unique spectrum of beneficial bacteria based upon and supported by what we eat.

Due to the many people that the combination of probiotics and enzymes seem to help - or fermented\cultured foods and juicing if you will, I would venture to guess that the refined foods, especially the fake oils\fats, sugars, and grain glutens (without the whole food nutrition) have done their tasks of small intestinal villi destruction well.

Taking ANYTHING, like CS, that would "kill" the beneficial bacteria one is attempting to re-establish would not be a good idea in such cases.

These people usually have both multiple digestive disturbances and huge nutrient absorption issues. They may be "chronically fatigued" with any number of similar diagnosis... Their intestines are F'ed up.

The primary goal of these folks, would be to not only work towards establishing populations of beneficial bacteria strains in their intestines, but to also eat in such a way that they are and remain supported for life... eventually, damage to the villi could be repaired to a great extent, time dependent upon on how far gone they are; everyone is different... medicine, even "natural" medicine is not a one size fits all.

I do not think that CS would be advisable for these folks, unless we were dealing with an issue that would require it and then, only if there were no better alternatives like clay, etc. that would be a little kinder to the intestinal flora.

grz-
