Um....I posted an interesting Mayan article on the Consciousness Forum a couple of weeks ago and I thought I'd just summarize it here on the Astro Forum. It's pretty fascinating and, of course, ties right in to what we're talking about!

"The Mayan calendar can now be shown to be not an instrument for tracking the procession of time as we consider it, but as a meter and the measure of the evolution of consciousness.

Here is a quick run through of the previous cycles and the consciousness that each level produced:


Cellular cycle - beginning 16.4 billion years ago, developed the consciousness of Action/Reaction. All of the physical laws, chemical compounds, star fields, then solar systems and planets were developed.


Mammalian cycle - beginning 820 million years ago, developed the consciousness of Stimulus/Response. Individual cells which were the product of the Cellular cycle started developing stimulus/response and the survival mechanism. Stimulus/response differs from action/reaction in the amount of consciousness present.


Familial cycle - beginning 41 million years ago, developed the consciousness of Stimulus/Individual Response. The recognition of individual consciousness and the establishment of the family relationship (recognition of individuals) rather than a herd, school or flock mentality.


Tribal cycle - beginning 2 million years ago, developed the consciousness of Similarities/Differences. Consciousness developed the tool, which we call "The Mind" to detect the similarities and differences in our experience.


Cultural cycle - beginning 102,000 years ago, developed the consciousness of Reasons. The leading edge of consciousness was developing reasons for any and every thing. These “Shared Reasons,” are the basis of all culture.


National cycle - beginning in the year 3115 B.C., developed the consciousness of Law. The concept of law or right and wrong developed.


Planetary cycle - beginning in the year 1755 A.D., developed the consciousness of Power. We have been gathering power derived from natural laws.


Galactic cycle - beginning January 5, 1999, developing the consciousness of Ethics. The consciousness of ethics has come forward and can be seen to be further organizing the powers that now exist to ensure the continued survival and evolution of the human race and our playground Mother Earth. So here we are with Ethics overriding Power in this 8th - Galactic consciousness cycle.(*this is where we are now!*)


Universal cycle - beginning February 10, 2011, will be developing the unlimited ability of Conscious Co-Creation.


Looking at the timing and the product of each of the nine cycles listed above, we can see an orderly progression of the development of consciousness and our abilities to interact with the universe.

**Each time that this pattern has repeated it has done so 20 times faster than the previous cycle.**

And, within the Galactic Cycle that we are in now (1999 to 2011) it is divided into 7 "days" and 6 "nights":

4th "Night" Nov. 28th, 2005 - Nov. 22nd, 2006
(Ethical procedures are implemented)

5th "Day" Nov. 23rd, 2006 - Nov. 17th, 2007
(We meet our Galactic neighbors)

(The end of manufactured lack)

6th "Day" Nov. 12th, 2008 - Nov. 6th, 2009
(Consciousness surpasses technology)

The last (9th) cycle of the Mayan Calendar is just from 2011 to 2012! This is 20 times faster than the previous cycle.


Ooooooh...It makes so much sense that the Mayan Calendar doesn't measure TIME....it measures our evolving Consciousness!
