No, I mean true socialism, according to my own definition. It has nothing to do with money or force. They each have their own individual property and money; however, they are a community unto themselves. If Farmer Stoltzfus's barn burns down, all the men get together, go over and rebuild that barn. If someone is sick, everyone pitches in to help out that family. You get the idea. They have their own schools that have nothing to do with the state. I've been around and spoken to many Amish. They are really lovely people. They're off the grid as much as possible. They still have to pay income tax and school tax because you know how that goes. They work very hard and save their money, and most of them are really rather wealthy.
People may not agree with their religious beliefs, but hey, we have nothing to say because they're the ones who are going to weather this financial storm without even so much as a blip in their radar. They grow their own food, tend their own livestock, make their own clothes, etc. In other words, THEY KNOW HOW TO DO THINGS. We don't anymore.
That's my dream. People helping each other out because it's the right thing to do, not having the government forcing everyone. That just doesn't fly. It creates resentment.
